Buying vs. Renting – Minneapolis is #1 Market to Buy a Home

Bloomberg Businessweek today released a story about Trulia’s most recent survey of housing, showing that Minneapolis is the #1 City in the US to buy a home versus rent one.  My client Terry and I were lucky enough to be able to share some of our thoughts about what makes the Twin Cities such a good place to own a home with the author of the article.  She seemed very surprised that we would hit the top of the list but given the great increase in home affordability in the last few years and the almost flat cost of renting during the same timeframe, the financial reasons to buy haven’t been this good in quite some time.

Buying a Home in Minneapolis

While I may make money by helping people buy and sell houses, I’m also one of the first to tell you that not everyone should own a home – homeownership is both a great feeling and a great burden… there is a lot to consider in any major lifestyle change.  Over the 7+ years I’ve been selling houses I’ve actually sold several people out of buying completely!

If you’d like to discuss your situation and weigh the pros and cons of buying vs. renting, I am happy to give you an honest opinion and analysis of your situation.  Feel free to call anytime.

So encouraging to hear that this is a good place to buy. Me and my husband have been looking at a few cities of interest for a while… this may just be our future home!

But renters do have the upper hand. I mean, where can you live where you get a handyman to come to your home in a manner of hours? At your own home, do it yourself… or pay someone BIG bucks to do it for you. Your call.

I just like the fact that I control everything in my home. Ownership. Don’t mess with my stuff!
