Prior Lake is a great place to call home.

Minnesota is the Land of 10,000 Lakes, and Prior Lake lays claim to more than its fair share of that number. The two largest lakes in the town — combined Upper and Lower Prior Lake and Spring Lake — cover nearly 2,000 acres, with 12 other lakes also lying all or partially within the city limits. If you can’t find a place to boat, fish or swim in Prior Lake, you’re just not trying hard enough.

Located on the southwest corner of the Twin Cities, Prior Lake offers the perfect mix of “close to everything” with a “middle of nowhere” feel. Prior Lake is approximately 30 minutes from downtown Minneapolis, and anywhere else in the southern metro, for that matter but still offers green space on par with rural communities.

In addition to its lakes, Prior Lake offers a number of dryland recreational activities as well, including 1,000 acres of parkland and 80 miles of sidewalks and trails, not to mention 34 athletic fields (baseball, softball, football and soccer).

Based on data from 2011, Prior Lake test scores were 20.9 percent higher than the state average in reading and 29.3 percent higher than the state average in math. Prior Lake is served by six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school.

Another popular area attraction is Mystic Lake Casino. In addition to thousands of slot machines, nearly 100 blackjack tables and other games, the casino property is home to a 600-room hotel and includes a golf course, fitness center and ice arena.
