More information about Chanhassen
It’s official: Chanhassen is the best place to live in the state. Or at least it was in 2011, the last time Money Magazine ranked America’s best small towns (population under 60,000). Based on a number of factors, the magazine ranked Chanhassen No. 10 in the nation, and No. 1 in the state.
One of the many areas the magazine used to determine its rankings is education, and Chanhassen scores very well in that department. The city has a new (opened in 2009) state-of-the-art high school that serves more than 1,300 students. And in 2011, test scores for Chanhassen students were 27.0 percent higher than the state average in reading and 17.1 percent higher in math, according to Money Magazine.
The city is home to the Channhassen Dinner Theater, the oldest and largest dinner theater in the nation. The main theater seats 577, the Fireside Theater contains 230 seats for non-dining patrons, and the Playhouse Theater has tables for 126.
Outdoor recreational opportunities are also abundant, with 34 parks, 11 lakes, and the enormous Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, a 1,137-acre horticultural garden and arboretum, for residents to enjoy.
As the city has grown, job opportunities have more than kept pace. Chanhassen experienced an impressive 25.62 percent job growth from 2000 to 2010.
Median age in Chanhassen is 35.1.
