Fridley covers less than 11 square miles, but somehow finds room for quality jobs and an abundance of green space. The city is home to medical technology firm Medtronic, which was founded as a medical equipment repair shop in a garage in Minneapolis in 1949. Other major employers include BAE Systems, Cummins and Unity Medical Center.

The Springbrook Nature Center covers 127 acres in Fridley, and is a “Must See” place to visit, according to the Minneapolis StarTribune. And the Minnesota DNR included Springbrook on its list of best places to see wildlife. In addition to being home to numerous Anoka County parks, Fridley also borders the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, which is a 54,000-acre protected corridor running along the Mississippi from Dayton to just south of Hastings.
If you’ve ever taken a sip from a drinking fountain in either Minneapolis or St. Paul, that water came from Fridley, as both of the Twin Cities get their water in Fridley, from the Mississippi River.
I-694 and Minnesota State Highways 47 and 65 are the main roads through the city.
According to the 2000 census, the median income for a household in the city was $48,372, and the median income for a family was $55,381. Median age is 42.0, and the air quality index—measured in the number of days ranked as “good”— is 82.0 percent.
