“Once they get you, they’ve got you,” could easily be Golden Valley’s city motto. Golden Valley, MN is just west of Minneapolis and features a wide variety of homes from the 1940′s, 1950′s, and 1960′s and some up to the 2000′s as well.

A 2006 survey by the city found that 25 percent of Golden Valley’s residents have lived in the city for more than 30 years, while only 20 percent had moved to the city within the last five years. The median age, according to that survey, is 54.3, with 39 percent of households consisting entirely of residents over age 55. Also, a whopping 27 percent of households are headed by retirees.
Older can often mean less active, but that’s not the case in Golden Valley, which is home to a number of recreation venues. Topping that list is the 27-hole Brookview Golf Course, a mature course with plenty of trees and water, not to mention bunkers. Additionally 15 percent of the city’s area — more than 1,000 acres — is dedicated to parks and green space, and the city also maintains almost 50 miles of trails for walking, hiking and biking.
Golden Valley experienced modest 5.25 percent job growth from 2000 to 2010. The city’s population is rounghly 20,000, but more than 30,000 people go to work in Golden Valley each day. Major employers include General Mills, AllianzLife, OptumHealth and Honeywell. Golden Valley is also home to KARE, the Twin Cities’ NBC affiliate.
The air quality index—measured in the number of days ranked as “good”— is 80.0 percent.
