Lakeville saw a huge surge of new homes and townhomes in the 2000′s as many new housing developments sprung up. Since the housing downturn new construction has slowed but there are still vast tracts of undeveloped land that will eventually be developed.

One of the fastest-growing cities in the state, the population of Lakeville has swelled more than 39 percent since 2000. And the amenities the city has to over have definitely kept pace.

The city boasts more than 100 miles of walking and biking trails, as well as nearly 2,000 acres of parks, recreational areas and preserves. Located on the southern edge of the Twin Cities metro area, Lakeville is also just minutes away from the Buck Hill ski area.

As Lakeville has grown, so have the number of employment opportunities. Job growth was at 20.26 percent from 2000 to 2009.

Located along I-35, Lakeville is less than 30 minutes from the downtowns of both Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Based on data from 2010, Lakeville test scores were 34.7 percent higher than the state average in reading and 37.9 percent higher than the state average in math. The Lakeville school district includes eight public elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools.
