Single family homes for sale start in the $100,000′s for some of the older, smaller homes and go well over $1,000.000 for the newest and biggest.  While much of Minnetonka is now built out, there is some land that have yet to be developed as well as some “in-fill” housing that could be built as well so expect to see new construction options for many years to come.

Minnetonka shares its name with Lake Minnetonka, one of the most popular recreation destinations in the Twin Cities, but only a fraction of the 14,000-acre lake is actually located within the city limits.

Incorporated in 1956, Minnetonka covers about 27 square miles and has a population of just over 51,000. And any way you slice it, Minnetonka is one of the elite cities in the state.

Median house values are significantly higher than the state average, and median household income is also higher than the statewide average. One of the few numbers that isn’t higher than the rest of the state is the number of Minnetonka residents looking for work. Unemployment was at 5.5 percent for 2011, nearly two points below the state average.

Based on data from 2010, Minnetonka test scores were 27.9 percent higher than the state average in reading and 18.6 percent higher than the state average in math. The Minnetonka school district includes six elementary schools, two middle schools and Minnetonka High School.

Minnetonka is located less than 10 minutes from downtown Minneapolis and 20 minutes from downtown St. Paul, as well as less than 30 minutes from the Mall of America and Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
