Minneapolis/St. Paul April Pending Home Sales Hit 10 Year High

The Twin Cities housing market continues to roar ahead as today the Minneapolis Area Association of REALTORS released April's home sales activity. While the report is full of good news, the best data point is the Pending Sales: April 2015 saw the most homes go under contract in the Twin Cities in 10 year - a stunning 26% jump from a year ago and a phenomenal sign of the housing market's renewed strength. Closed sales also did great last month, up 20% from a year prior: Median Sales Price was also … [Read more...]

Fantastically Simple Way to Make a Home Floor Plan

While there are several phone apps that can help you make a floor plan, this one seems to be the easiest yet: RoomScan for iPhone is simple to use: just walk around the room and put the phone up to each wall. It then uses the motion sensors in the phone to calculate the floor plan. If you want to add doors, windows and room dimensions, a cheap upgrade gives you that capability. RoomScan via SlashGear … [Read more...]

Print a 3D Model of Your House Plan

3D Model of House Plan

For home buyers that are looking to build a new home, one of the most common questions asked is "what will it look like?" While drawings and blueprints are helpful, it is still hard to get the feel for spaces and layouts. The Plan Collection is now offering house plans that include the digital files needed to create a model of the home using MakerBot or other 3D printers. For home buyers purchasing fully custom homes and for smaller builders that do not maintain model homes for each of their floor plans, 3D … [Read more...]

Property Needed for Humane Education Center

I received the message below and thought I'd share it with my readers in case any of you have a property or know of someone who has a property that would be a good fit for this. Hello Aaron I have been a civil rights lawyer in Minneapolis for 23 years.  For decades, I have also worked to stop cruelty to animals.  Although I have supported/funded sanctuaries, rescues, and activism, I have learned that the best way to prevent cruelty (to animals and people) is education. I am writing to you in search of a … [Read more...]

2014 Twin Cities Housing Market Forecast

Barb Jandric, president of Edina Realty, has made the following prognostications. I have added to these thoughts with my comments in blue where appropriate. This past year has been an exciting year of steady recovery in the Twin Cities metro area. Rising prices meant more homeowners gained enough equity in their homes to make a move. Rates hit record lows, enticing buyers to make a move in a competitive market with a shortage of inventory. This was a significant trend this year, as was continued strong investor … [Read more...]

Good news from the Minnesota Homeownership Center today: Recently, the Federal Housing Administration relaxed its guidelines for borrowers who "experienced periods of financial difficulty due to extenuating circumstances".  Basically, this is the Federal Housing Authorities ‘second chance’ mortgage program for potential buyers who experienced financial hardship (unemployment or severe reduction in income) during the recent recession. Known as the "Back To Work - Extenuating Circumstances Program", or … [Read more...]

HomeServices of America Takes Mortgage Business from Wells Fargo

HomeServices of America

This seems like an obvious play - after many years of operating a joint venture with Wells Fargo, HomeServices of America is making HomeServices Lending a wholly-owned subsidiary.  HomeServices Lending operates in over a dozen states and as Edina Realty Mortgage in Minnesota and Wisconsin. I think this is a great move by a company that's been on an aggressive growth strategy recently. Kudos for taking the next step!
